Aker BioMarine, a leading supplier of krill-derived products, is launching its first krill oil concentrate. Called Superba Boost Caps, this new product contains significantly more phospholipids and omega-3s compared to the previous generation of Superba Krill Oil. And in addition to the improved smell and taste of the product, Superba Boost also has a higher concentration of choline. Just two capsules qualifies for four EU-authorized health claims, including:

  • EPA & DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart
  • Choline contributes to the maintenance of normal liver function
  • Choline contributes to normal lipid metabolism
  • Choline contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism

Further, Superba just received Novel Foods Approval at extended use levels last month, which means that it is the only standard krill oil in the EU allowed to dose more than 250 mg EPA/DHA (up to 3,000 mg) per day.

“The combination of our Novel Foods Approval and our new krill concentrate, Superba Boost, will open numerous market opportunities for us and our customers, who can now take advantage of stronger market positioning backed by EU-authorized health claims,” said Matts Johansen, CEO, Aker BioMarine. “Additionally, krill oil will now become relevant to companies that in the past were reluctant to launch a product due to a difficult regulatory environment.”

This product wouldn’t be possible without Aker’s newly acquired technology called Flexitech.  Flexitech has enabled the company to produce commercial batchesout of its new manufacturing facility in the U.S.
